Beautiful! Enjoyed watching the music come from the people playing the instruments in the video, but even when not watching, it was very nice. I started to think about movies that were so good, partially due to the music score. Watching the old, old OLD movies on YouTube; one each night since the Pandemic hit us, was really neat. We had the sexy girlie-club music, the romantic couple music, the booming timpani of the your goose is cooked movies and the light, bright little kids having fun music.
Really, you are right about music.
When the kids were small, we immersed them in music...all kinds. You already know they loved all of it. We got CD's and cassette tapes from the library. Cheap, affordable! ie: FREE! There was a collection I remember the best: "Beethoven Lives Upstairs", "Mr. Bach Comes to Call" and there were others in that series, but I can't remember them (and haven't been able to find them all online to play for my grands yet). Our kids remember them to this day. We know that music is the HEART of the human spirit!
Hey! Be reassured that as busy as we all are these days juggling life, myself and I'm sure, many others do come here to Substack to chill with our friends, buddies and mentors we've gotten to know over time and yes, we do feel the love. I was remembering Melanie today! I miss her writing about her life story! :) Much love, Deb
Dear Jenni, thank you so much for this. It really is special. I still pinch myself that my beaten up construction worker husband plays his heart out in orchestras and has the energy for his passion. "We know that music is the HEART of the human spirit!" What you say here says it all. Music, passion, it infuses us with the energy and spirit to keep going, living, doing. Fight the monsters. I am uncertain if I read Melanie? Life is so busy, you're right. There are a lot of good people here. But when you disappear at the hands of the controllers it's hard to interact! A few of my sweet friends, like you, either see or check in and I really appreciate it. Just recently I realized that I am not being fed people I subscribe to or follow too, and it's especially bad on Instagram. I get worn down by the control. Then I remember why I do what I do. Passion. Purpose. He sees. Love you friend. Thank you again. You are a spirit lifter. oxox.
She passed of cancer while fighting for years. She told her story of the abuse and abandonment she endured. I never finished resin all of her words and I’m trying to find them now on Substack.
Ahhhh. Thank you so very much Dave! Wow. This is such a kind comment. After all these years I can hardly believe I get to attend these beautiful musical experiences. What a gift to be yourself and do your passion. Live your purpose while forging ahead down the messy highway of life. What amazes me the most about John is how he has never given up. It's been hard fought. I hope you're doing well. oxox
Wow…I love the video! You did an amazing job spotlighting John, honoring him as the beautiful music soared. The way you captured the church…organ/ceiling beams makes it a perfect portfolio piece! I love classical music…the pieces my grandson plays in symphony…he’s wind/high brass I think on his baritone or euph. I’ve recently found the theme songs for old classic movies on pandora… beautiful soothing music; taking me back to the movie, the moments in time.
You are quite an expert with videoing, podcasting, sharing previous posts of music. I’m impressed!! John’s life work has enriched you through osmosis probably 😄you are so knowledgable, dear Deb. I love that you share him with us just as you share your photography and the art of others! Substack should be promoting you… we all learn so much from you! Love you! Thanks for keeping me on my toes about music… and all I should be exploring/trying to improve, enhance my site! Big hugs and much love, girl. 🥰🤗🎶♥️
Thank you soooo much my friend!! Funny enough I wasn't going to record a thing - so didn't go into it in any kind of movie mode - but started to think I needed to get that premiere song all the way through because John said how much I would love it! Like you, I love movie music and movie classical pieces - I listen to modern composer Max Richter and this piece with the cello was so cinematic like his work! I LOVE that your grandson is in a symphony!!! Ugh! Wind and brass! 🩵 It's all amazing to me.
You're right, this is where John and I are glued together - in the arts. We haven't always understood each other - but this is where everything comes together.
Thank you for blessing me and supporting me the way you do 🙏🏻🩷 I hope I can get back in the feed and that my friends make it back into my view soon - but in the meantime - create create create!! and love love love!
Thank you Hege! It’s such a gift to the soul. I think when you go inside the old churches and hear the acoustics and music there is a spiritual magic that is unexplainable, other than the Divine gift like you say. I found it for myself when I studied ballet. Found that it helped me get through high school. I’d bury myself in my bedroom listening to classical and try my best to do the school work. Teen years were no fun - mean girls, etc., and it was a comfort. Another world to escape to.
Oh Deb, I'm so glad you shared this (and the links to your other previous posts about classical music.) The cello solo was haunting........gave me chills.
Fun fact: When I was in Jr. College in Fullerton a hundred years ago our College Choir sang with Carmen Dragon and the Glendale Symphony Orchestra at, get this, Dorothy Chandler Pavilion (now the Kodak Theater where the Oscars are). It was an unforgettable experience. I was in the alto section and stood right next to the harpist. It was amazing.
(And, yeah, the Substack carousel of posts via Notes is weird....but email always works! )
Jodi! thank you, thank you!! Wasn't that cello haunting indeed! My goodness I felt so blessed to be there. Always do 🙏🏻
I LOVE your Dorothy Chandler story!! So cool! Things you never forget ☺️John also has a Dorothy Chandler story! He got to play bass in the all-star high school orchestra there in 1980! (Funny, but I can't play an instrument or sing a note but I was always put in alto in choir class). What special times those days were. I would assume there are still events like that going on. I stopped by a big music and art festival yesterday at a local high school and was truly lifted up with hope that the arts are definitely alive in the young. Such good jazz musicians and amazing pieces of art.
Oh my thank you Susan for watching and reading. I pinch myself every single time. My John is the definition of a hard fought hallelujah. Sometimes I think we both are. We all are, right? I marvel at the work you do and how you live your life despite all the challenges. God is so good to us to let us hear that there is a purpose to our life. Always. Much love to you. oxox
What a joy that you and John have seen His faithfulness. My husband used to play the bass years ago. Now his thumb base arthritis limits him mainly to ukulele. I understand the hard fought hallelujah! Love to you!
MESMERIZING - Your recording touched every one of my emotional senses: the old church, the stained glass windows, the timbered ceiling, hand-crafted moldings, Church pews lovingly detailed and curvilinear in shape, gorgeous classical music, the soulful mourn of the solo cellist - its all there! What respite from the hustle-bustle of everyday life. Beautiful. Thank you!
Oh Bob, I knew if you saw it you would love it!! And I didn't really go with the intention of filming. I am usually VERY immersed -- and I was this time - but God said, video this whole piece. John kept talking about it for weeks building up and I'm glad I got the recording. Then I was putting this together and critiqued everything about how I didn't take it on as a film and go outside, begin with panning up the old rock Gothic style building, etc., ha ha!! But there's some more info about it with the "circular tale" I wrote. The Chaffey Bros were amazing as were so many of the old master builders, inventors. They brought water to this whole valley. Everything comes at us right? The appreciation of it all as you say. The interior, pews, stain glass, ceiling, those acoustics? seriously this was just me sitting on one side with a phone!! The acoustics made that recording! Then the passion of all the musicians and on and on. It fills me with so much joy -- I get giddy. Wish you could attend a concert with me! There is nothing like the respite from the hustle-bustle of the everyday than this blessing. Thank you, thank you, thank you! oxox

Here is Mel. :)
She passed of cancer while fighting for years. She told her story of the abuse and abandonment she endured. I never finished resin all of her words and I’m trying to find them now on Substack.
Oh bless her. I didn’t know of her but thank you for passing this on to me. Life is just so fragile. How very sad :(
Yes, losing someone like Mel is hard!
It’s just so sad :(
That was gorgeous
Reminds me of Edward elgar cello concerto played by jacqueline du pre. Thank Deborah for a little one of a kind 🎶 musical experience.

I love classical music! It lifts my spirits. I'm convinced there's something of God and the divine in it.

No fun get older but sounds like we're all crossing the hurdles! And ukulele is awesome 👏🏻💫
